Merriam's pocket gopher is patchily distributed in the southern Valley of Mexico and nearby highlands.
The dorsal fur varies from dull chestnut brown to slate black and may be paler on the underside.
It is described as living alone in underground burrows and feeding on plant roots and tubers, as typical for pocket gophers.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
