This pocket gopher is known from Mexico's volcanic region. Its back is dark, with lighter brown mixed into the fur along its sides.
The dorsal fur is dark, approaching black in some individuals, with a light-brown wash along the sides.
The species records include volcanic slopes and forested hills.
