Attwater's pocket gopher is a burrowing rodent that excavates tunnels with its forefeet. At a Texas study site, it was recorded eating many kinds of plants and making winding underground passageways.
It is described as intermediate in size between two close pocket-gopher relatives. Its forefeet bear large claws used in digging.
Its underground passages are winding and branch rather than forming simple straight lines. At Welder Wildlife Refuge, 41 of 51 plant species examined were recorded as food, showing a broad local diet.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
