A forest-floor rail of Sulawesi and Peleng. It has a rich chestnut back, black underparts, and a patch of blue bare skin behind the eye.
Its back and wings are deep chestnut, its underparts are black, and bare sky-blue skin extends behind the eye.
It moves on the forest floor and through low cover. Snails and insects have been recorded in its diet.
