The Bare-eyed Rail is native to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It lives in moist forests and inland wetlands and searches for food on the ground.
Adults have a reddish-brown head and chest, olive-brown back, slate-grey belly, and red legs, with bare skin around the eye.
It is active by day and walks low along the forest floor. When foraging, it sweeps leaf litter with its feet or bill and eats insects and land snails.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
