Royle’s high mountain vole lives in alpine parts of northern India and central Nepal. It has dark brown fur on its back and is associated with rocky ground above the tree line.
Its back is covered in dark, hair-brown fur, and its tail is moderately long relative to its body. Researchers compared museum skins and skulls to distinguish it from related mountain voles.
It is associated with rocky habitat above the tree line. Boulders, cliffs, and escarpments occur as separated patches, so suitable habitat is fragmented across the mountains.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
