This antpitta is recorded in northern Peru and southeastern Ecuador. Sources describe plumage differences between the sexes, but the color diagnosis remains uncertain because observations are few.
The Aves de Peru account describes males with a rufous crown, olive upperparts, a pale eye-ring, a dark mark before the eye, and scalloped underparts. Females are described with an olive crown and nape and otherwise similar patterning.
Near Cosanga in Ecuador, one nest was found in a shaded forest hollow draining toward a stream. Two adults fed and brooded the nestling. This is a single nest observation.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
