The Fansipan shrew mole is known only from Mount Fansipan in northwestern Vietnam. Its back is reddish brown, its underside dark gray, and its tail is slightly shorter than the head-and-body length.
The dorsal fur is reddish brown and the ventral fur dark gray. The tail is dark gray and was described as just over 80% of head-and-body length in the measured specimen.
Specimens were found in dwarf mountain forest at about 2,800–2,900 m. Nearby were grassy shrubs on thick, moist humus and a small bamboo forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
