A 1994 field-identification paper reports occurrence west to Sierra Leone in Upper Guinea, with an apparently isolated population in southern Senegal. It is encountered more often in gallery forest.
The white throat contrasts with the grey head and breast. Yellow increases toward the belly; the loose dark-grey crown can suggest a slight crest. The upper tail is more olive-rufous than the back and wings.
In Upper Guinea it occurs down to ground level and is more frequent in gallery forest. The authors regularly saw small monospecific groups.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
