This sunbird is endemic to Mayotte. It feeds on flower nectar and small insects, and the sexes differ markedly in color.
In breeding plumage, the male is iridescent blue-green from head to tail, with yellow sides and belly, a central red patch, and a black W-shaped line at the chest. The female is dull gray-green, with a whitish streaked throat.
It lives in pairs year-round, taking nectar in flower-rich places and also eating small insects and arthropods. It uses forest edges, gardens, parks, farmland, and mangroves.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
