A small bird of New Guinea's grasslands and wetlands, with a black head and underside set off by a yellow-orange rump.
The head, neck, and underside are black, while the back and wings are chestnut. The rump and upper tail coverts are yellow-orange; the eye is red, the bill pale, and the legs bluish grey.
It feeds on seeds on the ground during the day. It uses damp grasslands and low river areas with reeds, and may remain social during the breeding season.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
