This ground-dwelling bird of central Australia has different breast and wing patterns in males and females. Family groups hold territories in dry scrub and stony plains.
The male has a black stripe and band across the otherwise white breast, cinnamon flanks, and bold black-and-white wing bars. The female has an off-white throat, pale gray chest, and much less conspicuous white wing markings.
It lives in family clans, with each clan defending a territory. It is associated with dry scrub and stony plains and spends much of its time on the ground.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
