The coruro is a rodent of Chilean grasslands that lives in groups in underground tunnel systems and feeds on plant bulbs.
It has a stocky body with glossy blackish-brown fur, large incisors, and a sparsely haired, scaly-looking tail.
It is active by day and uses its forefeet and incisors to dig underground passages. It eats bulbs that grow below ground.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
