At about 28–30 cm, this is a small shearwater with dusky brown upperparts, a white belly, and a longer tail than a similar shearwater. It searches warm seas for fish and squid and nests on islands.
Its upperparts are dusky brown and its underparts are white. Compared with a Manx Shearwater, it has a longer tail and less white on the underwing.
It dives and swims underwater for small fish and squid, and also takes food at the surface. At island colonies it is active at night and nests in rock crevices, burrows, or under dense vegetation.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
