This cotinga is recorded in forest canopies from the Guiana Shield to northern Brazil. In field observations, males had purple upper-flank tufts and birds caught flying insects from the canopy.
At Iracema, two observed males had purple tufts on the upper flanks. The observed female was slightly duller and lacked the pectoral tufts.
In primary terra firme forest, birds were observed sallying from tree crowns to catch flying insects, often returning to the same crown.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
