This rat is found in the highlands of southern Vietnam. It has dense, soft fur and occurs in grassy or shrubby cover and at forest edges; it is mostly active at night.
Its fur is dense, soft, and silky. The back is dark brown, the sides are lighter and buffier, and the underside is dark grayish brown washed with buff.
It occurs in primary and secondary montane forests, grass and dense shrub cover, and forest margins. It is mostly nocturnal and probably terrestrial.
