This rat was described from Ertsberg in western New Guinea. The small record of seven specimens suggests a possible association with shallow marshes in alpine grasslands at about 3,400 m.
The described series is a medium-sized rat with a brown back, a slightly paler belly, and a short, uniformly colored hairy tail. Its fingers are dark.
The author placed it among rats found in alpine grassland and suggested it may inhabit the small, shallow marshes there.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
