The Bluethroat is a small bird that searches for insects in low shrubs near water and elsewhere. A male's blue throat pattern changes with season and region.
A male in breeding plumage has a blue throat whose center may be red, white, or all blue depending on region. Females often have a white throat with a dark band, while pale feather tips partly hide the male's colors in winter.
It searches for insects in low shrubs near streams and on the ground, sometimes turning over leaves and soil. In fall and winter it also eats seeds and fruit.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
