An Andean forest bird that searches among foliage in the lower and middle forest layers.
Buff scalloping and streaks mark the crown, sides of the neck, and underparts; it has a buff supercilium and rufous throat and tail.
It searches among leaves and branches in humid montane forest. Peru's eastern Andes account reports it at about 1,300–2,500 m.
