This weaver is endemic to Madagascar and is associated especially with humid forest in the east and north. It is usually alone or in pairs and eats insects and spiders as well as some fruit and nectar.
Adult males have a black crown and a bright yellow nape collar against dark olive-green plumage. Adult females are olive-brown with a slightly paler underside. Both sexes have chestnut undertail coverts.
It is usually solitary or in pairs but may join mixed flocks of insectivorous birds. The profile lists insects and spiders as the main foods, with fruit, seeds, nectar, and occasional small lizards also taken. Its woven ball nest has a long entrance tunnel; it usually lays two or three eggs, while the incubation period is not known.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
