This small bird was rediscovered in humid forest in southeastern Madagascar. Before its 1989 rediscovery, it was known from a single specimen collected in the eastern rainforest of central Madagascar. The study recorded it in the middle and upper canopy.
The specimens described in the paper had a pale buff-brown band across the lower throat and upper breast. One measured specimen had a 60 mm wing and a 43 mm tail.
At the 1989 study site, a bird in a mixed-species flock was seen gleaning from leaf surfaces in the mid-canopy. The authors described the food as presumed small insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
