The Horned Sungem ranges from Suriname through Brazil to eastern Bolivia. Males have bright blue and red crown ornaments, and the species feeds on flower nectar.
Males have a short, straight black bill, a deep-blue central crown, and lateral crown tufts that shine red and blue.
A 2016 study described two nectar-feeding observations through holes in flowers: one female in Mato Grosso in 2014 and one male in Minas Gerais in 2015. Observers could not determine which animal had made the holes.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
