This bat is known from southern India. A Kerala survey recorded it in evergreen forest, including a tunnel crevice roost in Silent Valley National Park.
The fur is long and loose. Dorsal hairs are dark Vandyke brown with chocolate-colored tips; ventral hairs have dark bases and pale-brown to fawn tips.
In Silent Valley National Park, Kerala, it roosted in crevices inside a tunnel and shared roost sites with the different species M. pusillus.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
