This species is endemic to Martinique. Records come from mangroves, wet forest and wooded gardens, and the bird is noted for a dark mahogany head and brightly contrasting body plumage.
The head and neck are dark mahogany, with a bluish triangular area at the base of the lower bill. The bright body contrasts with black feathers, and the legs are gray-blue.
It searches for seeds and insects and may move acrobatically, including hanging upside down or descending a trunk. Its plant-fibre nest hangs beneath foliage such as palm, heliconia or banana leaves.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
