The Nigerian gerbil is a Sahelian rodent with sandy to orange fur, a white underside, and a long, sturdy tail. It is nocturnal and terrestrial, and it eats and stores seeds.
The back is sandy to orange, with gray-based hairs, while the underside is white. White spots occur near the eyes and behind the ears. A robust tail ends in a tuft of generally short, dark hairs.
It is nocturnal and terrestrial, using shallow or deeper burrows at different seasonal stages. Seeds make up most of its diet, and it stores them before dormancy; its diet broadens during the rainy season.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
