This antbird occurs mainly in southeastern Peru, and also in Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, and Ecuador. It uses the forest understory, often in stands of Guadua bamboo.
Males have heavily black-and-white streaked heads, backs, and breasts, with two white wing-bars and rufous sides to the belly and rump. Females have finer streaking, buff rather than white.
It forages in the forest understory and is largely associated with stands of Guadua bamboo.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
