A retiring lowland saltator from Mexico through Central America. It uses forest edges and thickets while searching for food, including flowers and fruit.
Among similar lowland saltators in Mexico and Central America, look for grayish upperparts, a bold white eyebrow, and an unmarked breast. Immatures can show a yellow wash below.
It favors edges, second-growth thickets, hedges, and tangles in both dry and humid lowlands. The account notes that it may feed at morning-glory flowers.
