The Black Oropendola is a large bird of restricted humid lowlands in eastern Panama and northwestern Colombia. It searches high in trees and is thought to take nectar from flowers.
In adults, the head and back are glossy black with a blue sheen; the lower back and upper tail are dark chestnut, and the tail is yellow. Blue bare skin extends behind the eye, and the head has a long, narrow black crest.
It forages alone or in small groups in the upper trees of humid lowland forest, often near edges. It inserts its slender bill into flower corollas, apparently to take nectar.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
