This large honeyeater has a dark olive head and back set off by a bright orange cheek patch. It is restricted to the high mountains of west-central New Guinea, where it feeds on fruit, insects and sedge seeds.
The head and neck are dark olive to olive-grey, with darker mottling on the crown. A narrow black streak behind the eye and an orange cheek patch edged by a diffuse dark area are distinctive.
It inhabits subalpine forest and shrubland along alpine grassland, mostly at elevations above 3,200 m. Its diet includes fruit, insects and sedge seeds.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
