This antbird occurs in eastern Brazil, Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina. Males are black and females brown; both have red eyes. It searches for insects and other prey near the forest floor.
Males are glossy black with red eyes, two white wing bars, and a concealed white patch between the scapulars. Females are brown with paler underparts and the same concealed patch.
It catches insects in low vegetation and on the ground. It often follows army-ant columns and takes small arthropods flushed by the ants. It occurs in forest understory, edges, and secondary growth.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
