This small fruit-eating bat lives in forests of Southeast Asia. Under the current species treatment, it is the taxon formerly included as a subspecies of Balionycteris maculata.
Its back is dark brown and its underside is gray. The dark wing membranes carry white spots, including conspicuous white spots at the joints of the wing digits.
It feeds on fruit throughout the year. In Peninsular Malaysia, the account records use of fruit from many plants, from understory species to large trees with different fruiting seasons.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
