This chinchilla-family rodent is known from a rocky mountain in southern Ecuador. It has brown-gray upper fur and a paler underside, and records place it close to extensive rock surfaces.
The dorsal fur is brownish gray and the underside yellowish gray. Its ears are blackish with cream-colored fringes, and long coarse maroon hairs cover the upper side of the tail.
Fecal pellets and feeding marks occur across Cerro El Ahuaca, but the species appears restricted to the immediate vicinity of extensive rocky surfaces. The original description does not identify the plants eaten.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
