An owl endemic to Annobón. The authors provisionally retain it as a species based on morphology and vocalizations while calling for more research.
It has broad black streaks on the underparts, rufous patches, and bold white spots on the remiges. The paper notes that specimen preparation may affect some markings.
It seems to prefer wet forest, but the authors also recorded it in drier stands of moist forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
