This is a historical form of kudu described from specimens north of the Zambezi River in 1894. The account records an adult male and female, a juvenile, and a fetus from Leschumo Forest.
In the 1894 specimen record, the adult male measured 219 cm in body length, with a 58 cm tail and 144 cm shoulder height; the adult female measured 211 cm in body length and 137 cm at the shoulder. A juvenile measured 134 cm in body length and 94 cm at the shoulder. The comparison describes northern-Zambezi animals as darker yellow-brown than Cape animals, with a stronger-looking neck and nape, finer and glossier hair, and horn axes that run almost parallel.
The 1894 account lists adult male and female, young, and fetal specimens collected in the Leschumo forests. It describes the forests inhabited by the northern Zambezi form as denser than those in the southern comparison regions. These are historical collection and environmental records.
