This antpitta was studied in montane cloud forest in northern Venezuela. In that study area it searched for small arthropods on branches and moss near the forest floor.
Adults recorded in northern Venezuela had black streaks on the crown and nape, black breast scales with narrow olive margins, and buff-yellow edges on some wing feathers. Juveniles had an entirely chestnut head and lacked the black crown streaks.
In cloud forest at Henri Pittier National Park, it lived in the understory near the ground and searched branches and their moss for small arthropods.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
