The Northern Brush-tailed Phascogale has a dark-gray back, paler underside, and a brush of long black hairs toward the end of its tail. A 2021 Northern Territory government account reports most records from tall open forest in the Top End.
The back is dark gray and the underside paler; the snout is pointed and the eyes are large. Long black hairs on the distal two-thirds of the long tail form a brush, and can stiffen when the animal is alarmed.
Most records of this species are from tall open forests dominated by Eucalyptus miniata and E. tetrodonta.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
