The King Bird-of-paradise occurs on New Guinea and nearby islands. Males court with brilliant red plumage and their long ornamental tail feathers.
The male has brilliant crimson head, throat, and upperparts, a narrow iridescent green breast shield, and wire-like central tail feathers ending in green spiral discs. Females are brownish.
It eats fruit and arthropods. Males court by vibrating their wings and spreading their breast plumes and tail while dancing on a branch.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
