The Brazilian shrew mouse is a small rodent of the Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil. It is often fossorial, with gray fur that becomes reddish brown along the back.
Its short, velvety fur is slate gray at the base and reddish brown along the back. Its small eyes are hidden beneath the fur.
It is fossorial and may make burrows along roots. It has been found by day in the upper soil beneath leaf litter, and limited evidence suggests that wild individuals eat insects.
