This butcherbird occurs on New Guinea and nearby islands. It searches for insects, fruit, and other food in the canopy of lowland forest and dense secondary growth.
Adults have a black head and throat, black tail, white rump, and a conspicuous white patch on the wing. The underparts below the upper breast are white, and the sexes look similar.
It forages in pairs or small groups in tree crowns, eating large insects, spiders, larvae, and fruit. It also takes small vertebrates at times.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
