The Black-backed Butcherbird is a medium-sized, black-and-white butcherbird with a white throat. It occurs in southeastern New Guinea and northern Australia.
The head and back are black, sharply set off from the white chin and throat. The rump is gray, and the black tail has a white tip. The pale blue-gray bill has a dark hooked tip.
It lives in open forest and tropical savanna woodland and feeds mainly on insects. It also takes small lizards and seeds, pouncing on prey from a perch.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
