This warbler lives in the understory of woods in Mexico and Central America. It moves near the ground and flicks or fans its long tail to show the white tips.
The outer tail feathers have white tips, and the crown has a yellow patch. The bird is dark above, with white around the eye, yellow underparts and a brownish wash across the chest.
It skulks near the ground in dense woods. When perched, it often flips its long tail or fans it open to display the white tips.
