The House Swift is a swift with a dark body, a white throat patch, and a broad white rump band. It catches insects in flight and forages over forests and towns.
It is dark overall, with a white throat patch and a broad white band on the rump. Compared with other Apus swifts, its wings are broader and shorter, and its tail has a shallow fork.
It feeds on insects while flying. It forages over forests, open areas, and cities, and often flies above the tree canopy.
In Hong Kong it nests in clusters beneath building eaves, binding plants and feathers with saliva. Nests are also used for roosting outside the breeding season.
At five Hong Kong colonies in 2019–2020, prey included ants, true bugs, flies and mosquitoes.
The sexes have similar plumage, and juveniles have pale-fringed flight feathers.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
