This furnariid is known from the Río Chinchipe area of northwestern Peru. A 2020 specimen comparison supported treating it as a distinct species rather than a subspecies of a close relative.
It has a white throat and breast with brown streaks across the breast and flanks. Cinnamon marks the forehead and eyebrow, while the wings and tail are rufous.
Records are from the Río Chinchipe margins; its reported habitat is arid lowland scrub and deciduous-woodland edges.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
