This small owl was described from Sumba, Indonesia. The original study recorded it in places where forest remained.
The described adult has a gray head with fine barring, a white eyebrow-like stripe, and yellow eyes.
Observers recorded a single-note call repeated about every three seconds. Birds were seen in remaining forest patches and not in open areas.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
