A slender otter of African lakes and large rivers that catches fish in the water.
Some individuals have white spots on the upper lip or throat, but in others the spots are sparse or absent. The body is slender and the feet are webbed.
It catches fish by sight in clear rivers and lakes. It may also eat frogs, crabs and small water birds. Groups of males or young otters may occur where prey is abundant.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
