A jird of rocky, arid places. Its long-haired tail is especially full and noticeable in males.
The back is yellowish red with black hairs mixed in, while the underside is white. Long hairs make the tail bushy, especially in males.
It is nocturnal and burrows beneath rocks to avoid the heat. It is also a good climber on rocky ground.
