This small manakin inhabits humid forest north of the Amazon and in the Guianas; it also occurs at forest edges.
The male is black, with a white forecrown, azure-blue lower rump, orange-yellow breast patch and yellow belly. The female is green above, bluish on the crown, and olive-green on the throat and breast.
It feeds on small fruits and insects in humid forest and along forest edges. WikiAves reports that male displays are usually solitary.
