The purple-faced langur is an arboreal monkey endemic to Sri Lanka. It has a long tail and dark face, and several subspecies occur on the island.
The face is purplish black, with noticeable pale cheek whiskers. Body fur ranges from blackish to gray, and body size differs among subspecies.
It feeds mainly on leaves, but also eats fruit, flowers, and seeds. It usually avoids human settlements, though it may eat cultivated fruit near farms.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
