The greater long-nosed armadillo occurs east of the Andes in South America. It has conspicuous spurs on its hind legs and digs through leaf litter and soil for invertebrates.
Prominent spurs on the hind legs help distinguish it from other armadillos.
It lives alone and can be active by day or night. It turns over leaf litter and soil with its snout and forefeet to find invertebrates.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
