An armadillo active around dusk and at night that searches leaf litter for insects. It also occurs in parts of the United States east and north of Texas.
It has a long head, prominent ears and short legs. Hard, plated scales cover its body and tail; the nine bands across its middle give it its name.
It is active mainly around dusk and at night, using its nose to push through leaf litter in search of insects on and beneath the forest floor.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
